On Thursday, September 26, 2024, WERI hosted a workshop that attracted over 40 participants from a variety of local agencies. Representatives attended from  the Guam Waterworks Authority, Guam Environmental Protection Agency, Guam Bureau of Statistics and Plans, NAVFAC Marianas, Guam Soil and Water Conservation District, and Bureau of Statistics and Plans, among others.

The workshop featured a series of presentations by WERI and experts, covering essential topics as as the Northern Guam Lens Aquifer and tools available on the WERI and Guam Hydrologic Survey websites, including geology maps, data visualization products and other resources.

In addition to foundational topics, the event showcased groundbreaking research on key issues impacting the island’s water security. Attendees were presented with findings on chloride levels and water production, rainfall analysis and climate change, as well as emerging contaminants such as PFAS and dieldrin. These insights sparked meaningful discussions on the challenges and solutions for managing Guam’s water resources.

The workshop not only served as a learning platform for new industry members and professionals seeking continuing education units (CEU’s) and certifications, but it also opened the door for future collaborative projects with WERI. The discussions facilitated networking among local agencies and researchers, laying the groundwork for joint initiatives aimed at addressing the island’s water management and environmental challenges.

Special thanks to UOG GLE for their help in organizing the event. Their effort and contribution attributed to the success of the workshop.
