WERI News: WERI at Guam Forest Plan Summit
On June 20, 2024, experts and stakeholders convened for the Guam Forest Plan Summit to discuss critical issues surrounding Guam’s forest system. Representatives from WERI presented some of their completed research projects during the topic sessions on watershed management.
WERI News: Construction begins for new WERI building
As of May 2024, construction begins for the new WERI building. It will soon rise beside the new School of Engineering building at the UOG Dean’s Circle. The new WERI building will continue to expand its services and research operations with the 13,000 square foot space.
WERI News: The NGLA Tour makes its return
After four years, WERI’s Northern Guam Lens Aquifer (NGLA) Tour for educators and professionals makes its official return on May 10, 2024. This marks the relaunch of the NGLA field trip series, which took place once or twice a year in the past.
WERI News: Research exchange with Feng Chia University
WERI hosted the exchange with Feng Chia University (FCU) from Taiwan, marking the second exchange between the two institutions. With 16 presentations from both FCU and WERI, it created a space to share ideas for research projects and boost academic partnership for potential collaborations in the future.
Northern Guam Lens Aquifer Tour 2024
The NGLA tour officially returns this year and is set for Friday, May 10 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Participants will get to embark on a fieldtrip that starts at UOG and then to 4 spots highlighting the geologic and hydrologic features of the NGLA. Register here. 2024 WERI FSM Advisory Council Meeting
This year’s FSM-WERI Water Resources Research Advisory Council meeting is set for Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Doors open at 8:30 AM. The meeting will be held at the Cliff Rainbow Hotel, Pohnpei.
WERI at NGWA’s Groundwater Week 2023 Conference
The Hydrolab Team, Ms. Atasha Bautista, Ms. Hazelle Ko and Ms. Dannika Valerio, represent WERI at the December 2023 conference in Las Vegas, NV. They presented their projects on the national stage, highlighting important water issues and innovative hydrologic data technology pertinent to Guam.
UOG breaks ground for new WERI building
UOG held a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 20, 2023 for two new buildings—a facility for WERI and a nursing annex for the School of Health. For WERI, this expands the Water Quality Lab and the space for research activities.
2023 WERI Guam Advisory Council Meeting
This year’s GUAM-WERI Water Resources Research Advisory Council meeting is set for Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Doors open at 8:30 AM.
The meeting will be held at The Westin Resort Guam, Tumon.

Water Quality Laboratory
The Water Quality Laboratory began from the inception of the Water Resource Research Center in 1972. Today, WERI’s Water Quality Laboratory provides the island’s major water quality analysis service for government agencies, private sector, local water vendors, business, and construction companies. Our laboratory and Methods/Parameters are certified by the Guam Environmental Protection Agency.
The current staffing operates a full time Laboratory Manager, Laboratory Technician, and Chemical Analyst. Part time Research Assistants help as required by analysis workload. For analysis price listing, operations certificates, and more information click here.
